BASURA(leza). Nuevas oportunidades para los residuos.

BASURA(leza).

X International Congress on Ceramics and Architecture March, 2022. School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM) Avenida Juan de Herrera, 4. 28040 Madrid
Sala de Grados B

Due to the current health situation, the congress will allow online presentations

INTRODUCTION

The X International Congress on Ceramics and Architecture will take place at the School of Architecture Madrid (ETSAM) on March 2022.

The Ceramic Chair from the Design Department invites researchers,
PhD students and professionals from Architecture-related disciplines
to share their experiences related to the investigation, study, innovation, constructive and compositional application of the different non-structural ceramic materials in contemporary architecture.

Architects, artists, engineers, writers, historians, sociologists and other professionals will contribute to the congress with the presentation of scientific articles.

The proposed theme for this tenth Congress is “Ceramics, density and intensity”, a title that should be considered as a suggestion, but does not determine proposals from other fields related to non-structural ceramics.

On the one hand, the ambition of this congress is to situate ceramics in an architectural context from a historic-artistic perspective: the great masters who have employed ceramic materials, restorations of ceramic buildings, collaboration between architects and ceramists or others.

On the other hand, its intention is to promulgate the work of contemporary architects who have used ceramics in their professional or accademic work: conceptualization of space, reasons justifying the use of the material, etc.

SUMMARY OF DATES AND DEADLINES:

– February 18th 2022: 250 word summary
– February 25th2022: Notification of selected proposals
– March 14th 2022: Submission of final presentations

– Session 1. Monday 21 March, Sala de Grados B (ETSAM)
– Session 2. Tuesday 22 March, Sala de Grados B (ETSAM)

Call for papers // Open Philosophy: HYBRID DOMESTICITIES

Open Philosophy (https://www.degruyter.com/opphil) invites submissions for the topical issue “Hybrid Domesticities”, edited by Gonzalo Vaillo (University of Innsbruck, Austria / Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain) and Jordi Vivaldi (University of Innsbruck, Austria / Bartlett, University College London, UK / Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain).

Domesticity is generally associated with a human environment, a civilized space that, by conventionally distinguishing itself from nature, is frequently presented as being safe, ordered, intimate, controlled, private, predictable, etc. The arrival and generalization of the Anthropocene has challenged the strict binarism of these categories, claiming for multispecies forms of cohabitation that are increasingly setting foot in our home. Within this context, and rather than dismantling or purifying the domestic, we want to investigate how, in light of these transformations, home-making is or might be recodified into hybrid forms of domesticity, opening more lines of flight, reactivating lost paths or pointing to novel challenges concerning the praxis of living well together at home.

To this end, this topical issue questions how the discourse, design and practice of the domestic is or might be philosophically articulated concerning the numerous agencies coexisting with us in the household, actively considering their biological, geological or technological layers. We aim thus to both capture and invigorate the ontological, epistemological, aesthetical, political and ethical dimensions of these hybrid domesticities, welcoming for this transversal endeavor contributions coming from any philosophical school or current.

Within this framework, we invite contributions that address, among other topics:

* Multispecies forms of domesticity and their philosophical implications along history

* The ontological dimensions of the home in the age of the Anthropocene

* Philosophical referents regarding the architectural design of hybrid domesticities

* Labor and domesticity in post-pandemic times: a political reading

* Domesticity and inter-animality today: an ethical commitment

* Urban domesticity: the home as a geopolitical space

* Augmented reality and remote domesticity: a new epistemology of home-making

* Feminist approaches to non-domesticating domesticities

* Agonistic domesticity: conflict over consensus in democratic home-making

* Pleasure and aesthetics within a multispecies household

* Planetarity and Post-colonial Domesticity
