Juarranz Serrano, Ángela

Ángela Juarranz es Doctora Arquitecta por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, donde también completó sus estudios de Arquitectura y Máster en Proyectos Avanzados. Es Profesora de Grado y Máster en el Departamento de Proyectos Arquitectónicos de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid. Ha sido Visiting Scholar en la Universidad de Columbia en Nueva York, así como conferenciante y tribunal en universidades nacionales e internacionales, como Central Sant Martins en University of the Arts London, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Barnard College en University of Columbia, School of Architecture and Design en IE University o IED Istituto Europeo di Design.

 

Su labor académica ha sido reconocida, entre otras, con la III Beca de Investigación en Nueva York, de la Fundación Arquia y la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando; la Beca FPU, del Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte; el Premio COAM Difusión 2020; la Muestra de Investigación de la XIV Bienal Española de Arquitectura; la XVI Bienal de Venecia; y la Bienal Internacional de Arquitectura de Argentina 2014. Desde 2019 es miembro y Secretaria de Redacción del Comité Editorial de Cuadernos de Proyectos Arquitectónicos (UPM). En 2017-2018 co-comisarió y co-editó el ciclo de conferencias Argument #1: Sampling Contexts (DPA, Asimétricas, 2019). Es autora del libro Environment: la construcción del medio (Asimétricas, 2023) y de artículos científicos publicados en revistas como Arquitectura Viva, Cuadernos de Proyectos Arquitectónicos, RA Revista de Arquitectura (Universidad de Navarra), RA Revista de Arquitectura (Universidad de Chile), Constelaciones, REIA, entre otras.

 

Combina la actividad docente e investigadora con la práctica profesional. Estudio Juarranz ha sido reconocido con premios de ámbito nacional e internacional, como el Panorama de Obras de la XIV Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo; XVI Bienal de Arquitectura de Venecia; Premio Europan (11, 12, 13); First Works Bauwelt Award Finalist 2017; Premio COAM 2017, 2021 y Premio PFC COAM 2013 (Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid); Premio COACYL 2020 (COA Castilla y León); Premio Empresa Municipal de la Vivienda de Madrid (2012); entre otros.

Ángela Juarranz holds a PhD in Architecture (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), where she also completed her studies in Architecture and a Master in Advanced Projects. She teaches at the Departamento de Proyectos Arquitectónicos of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid. He has been a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University in New York, as well as lecturer and jury at national and international universities, such as Central Sant Martins at the University of the Arts London, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Barnard College at Columbia University, School of Architecture and Design at IE University o IED Istituto Europeo di Design.

Gelabert Amengual, Antoni

Toni Gelabert (Palma, 1983) es arquitecto por la ETSA de Barcelona – UPC (2008) y Máster en Proyectos Arquitectónicos Avanzados por la ETSA de Madrid- UPM (2011). Durante su formación fue becado tanto por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid – UPM como por la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – UPC para el desarrollo de trabajos de investigación acerca de la arquitectura contemporánea y su docencia.

Su Tesis Doctoral, titulada Sobre el Concepto de Contingencia en Arquitectura. Afinidades desestabilizadoras del objeto arquitectónico (2017, Mención Internacional), traza posibles respuestas operativas desde la arquitectura a la contingencia que enfrentan los objetos que produce y recoge su interés por el trabajo con la incertidumbre en la arquitectura contemporánea. Ha sido comisario del ciclo de conferencias Arguments #3 : Making Matters.

Es además miembro del Grupo de Investigación UPM Cultura del Hábitat.

Su obra investigadora ha sido ampliamente compartida en revistas y congresos nacionales e internacionales y reconocida con premios como la VIII Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo 2012 (finalista), Pabellón Español de la 16 Bienal de Arquitectura de Venecia 2018, XII Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo 2022 (seleccionada).

Desde el 2017 es profesor Asociado del Departamento de Proyectos de la ETSAM, UPM. Es además profesor de Proyectos en el Grado en Diseño de Interiores de la ETSAM. Ha sido profesor en el Máster Tricontinental en Proyectos Arquitectónicos Integrados de la Universidad Europea de Madrid – UEM y Profesor Extranjero Invitado en la Farq – Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad de la República de Montevideo. También ha sido director de varias ediciones de talleres de verano dedicados a la investigación sobre la transformación del entorno mediterráneo bajo la presión (social, económica, ambiental) del turismo. Ha sido miembro del Grupo de Innovación Docente UPM Dispositivos Aglutinadores de Proyecto y participante en varios proyectos de Innovación Docente UPM.

Desde 2011 dirige su propia oficina de arquitectura toni gelabert arquitectura, dedicada al pensamiento y producción de arquitectura en todas sus escalas, inserta en una red prolífica de colaboración, temporal y promiscua. Actualmente la oficina se encuentra desarrollando obras, proyectos y concursos en todo el territorio nacional, destacando las siguientes obras obtenidas en concursos públicos: Museo de la Semana Santa en Zamora, Centro de día en María de la Salut, Nave industrial y oficinas en Llucmajor, Reforma del Albergue de La Victoria en Alcúdia. Su trabajo a lo largo de estos años ha sido ampliamente expuesto, publicado y premiado, destacando: XVI BEAU Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo 2023 (premiado Biblioteca y Teatro de Boadilla del Monte y seleccionado Sala VIP ARCO 2021), Premios COAM 2023. Interiorismo (premiado Cuarto Bocel), Premios COAM 2022. Toni Gelabert (Palma, 1983) is an architect from the ETSA of Barcelona – UPC (2008) and a Master in Advanced Architectural Projects from the ETSA of Madrid – UPM (2011). During his training he received scholarships from both the Polytechnic University of Madrid – UPM and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – UPC for the development of research work on contemporary architecture and its teaching.

His PhD, titled On the Concept of Contingency in Architecture. Destabilizing affinities of the architectural object (2017, International Mention), traces possible operational responses from architecture to the contingency faced by the objects it produces and reflects his interest in working with uncertainty in contemporary architecture He has curated the lecture series Arguments #3: Making Matters.

He is also a member of the UPM Research Group Habitat Culture.

His research work has been widely shared in national and international magazines and conferences and recognized with awards such as the VIII Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism 2012 (finalist), Spanish Pavilion of the 16th Venice Architecture Biennial 2018, XII Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism 2022 (selected).

Since 2017 he has been an Associate Professor of Architectural Design Department of the ETSAM, UPM. He is also a Design Professor in the Interior Design Degree at ETSAM. He has been a professor in the Tricontinental Master in Integrated Architectural Projects at the European University of Madrid – UEM and a Guest Foreign Professor at the Farq – Faculty of Architecture of the University of the Republic of Montevideo. He has also been director of several editions of summer workshops dedicated to research on the transformation of the Mediterranean environment under the pressure (social, economic, environmental) of tourism. He has been a member of the UPM Teaching Innovation Group Project Binding Devices and a participant in several UPM Teaching Innovation projects.

Since 2011, he runs his own architecture office, toni gelabert arquitectura, dedicated to the thought and production of architecture at all its scales, inserted in a prolific network of collaborations, temporary and promiscuous. Currently the office is developing works, projects and competitions throughout the national territory, highlighting the following works obtained in public competitions: Semana Santa Museum in Zamora, Daycare Center in María de la Salut, Industrial warehouse and offices in Llucmajor, La Victoria Hostel refurbishment in Alcúdia. His work throughout these years has been widely exhibited, published and awarded, highlighting: XVI BEAU Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism 2023 (awarded Boadilla del Monte Library and Theater and selected ARCO VIP Room 2021), COAM Awards 2023. Interior Design (awarded Cuarto Bocel), COAM Awards 2022.
