Gelabert Amengual, Antoni

Toni Gelabert (Palma, 1983) es arquitecto por la ETSA de Barcelona – UPC (2008) y Máster en Proyectos Arquitectónicos Avanzados por la ETSA de Madrid- UPM (2011). Durante su formación fue becado tanto por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid – UPM como por la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – UPC para el desarrollo de trabajos de investigación acerca de la arquitectura contemporánea y su docencia.

Su Tesis Doctoral, titulada Sobre el Concepto de Contingencia en Arquitectura. Afinidades desestabilizadoras del objeto arquitectónico (2017, Mención Internacional), traza posibles respuestas operativas desde la arquitectura a la contingencia que enfrentan los objetos que produce y recoge su interés por el trabajo con la incertidumbre en la arquitectura contemporánea. Ha sido comisario del ciclo de conferencias Arguments #3 : Making Matters.

Es además miembro del Grupo de Investigación UPM Cultura del Hábitat.

Su obra investigadora ha sido ampliamente compartida en revistas y congresos nacionales e internacionales y reconocida con premios como la VIII Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo 2012 (finalista), Pabellón Español de la 16 Bienal de Arquitectura de Venecia 2018, XII Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo 2022 (seleccionada).

Desde el 2017 es profesor Asociado del Departamento de Proyectos de la ETSAM, UPM. Es además profesor de Proyectos en el Grado en Diseño de Interiores de la ETSAM. Ha sido profesor en el Máster Tricontinental en Proyectos Arquitectónicos Integrados de la Universidad Europea de Madrid – UEM y Profesor Extranjero Invitado en la Farq – Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad de la República de Montevideo. También ha sido director de varias ediciones de talleres de verano dedicados a la investigación sobre la transformación del entorno mediterráneo bajo la presión (social, económica, ambiental) del turismo. Ha sido miembro del Grupo de Innovación Docente UPM Dispositivos Aglutinadores de Proyecto y participante en varios proyectos de Innovación Docente UPM.

Desde 2011 dirige su propia oficina de arquitectura toni gelabert arquitectura, dedicada al pensamiento y producción de arquitectura en todas sus escalas, inserta en una red prolífica de colaboración, temporal y promiscua. Actualmente la oficina se encuentra desarrollando obras, proyectos y concursos en todo el territorio nacional, destacando las siguientes obras obtenidas en concursos públicos: Museo de la Semana Santa en Zamora, Centro de día en María de la Salut, Nave industrial y oficinas en Llucmajor, Reforma del Albergue de La Victoria en Alcúdia. Su trabajo a lo largo de estos años ha sido ampliamente expuesto, publicado y premiado, destacando: XVI BEAU Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo 2023 (premiado Biblioteca y Teatro de Boadilla del Monte y seleccionado Sala VIP ARCO 2021), Premios COAM 2023. Interiorismo (premiado Cuarto Bocel), Premios COAM 2022. Toni Gelabert (Palma, 1983) is an architect from the ETSA of Barcelona – UPC (2008) and a Master in Advanced Architectural Projects from the ETSA of Madrid – UPM (2011). During his training he received scholarships from both the Polytechnic University of Madrid – UPM and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – UPC for the development of research work on contemporary architecture and its teaching.

His PhD, titled On the Concept of Contingency in Architecture. Destabilizing affinities of the architectural object (2017, International Mention), traces possible operational responses from architecture to the contingency faced by the objects it produces and reflects his interest in working with uncertainty in contemporary architecture He has curated the lecture series Arguments #3: Making Matters.

He is also a member of the UPM Research Group Habitat Culture.

His research work has been widely shared in national and international magazines and conferences and recognized with awards such as the VIII Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism 2012 (finalist), Spanish Pavilion of the 16th Venice Architecture Biennial 2018, XII Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism 2022 (selected).

Since 2017 he has been an Associate Professor of Architectural Design Department of the ETSAM, UPM. He is also a Design Professor in the Interior Design Degree at ETSAM. He has been a professor in the Tricontinental Master in Integrated Architectural Projects at the European University of Madrid – UEM and a Guest Foreign Professor at the Farq – Faculty of Architecture of the University of the Republic of Montevideo. He has also been director of several editions of summer workshops dedicated to research on the transformation of the Mediterranean environment under the pressure (social, economic, environmental) of tourism. He has been a member of the UPM Teaching Innovation Group Project Binding Devices and a participant in several UPM Teaching Innovation projects.

Since 2011, he runs his own architecture office, toni gelabert arquitectura, dedicated to the thought and production of architecture at all its scales, inserted in a prolific network of collaborations, temporary and promiscuous. Currently the office is developing works, projects and competitions throughout the national territory, highlighting the following works obtained in public competitions: Semana Santa Museum in Zamora, Daycare Center in María de la Salut, Industrial warehouse and offices in Llucmajor, La Victoria Hostel refurbishment in Alcúdia. His work throughout these years has been widely exhibited, published and awarded, highlighting: XVI BEAU Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism 2023 (awarded Boadilla del Monte Library and Theater and selected ARCO VIP Room 2021), COAM Awards 2023. Borrego Cubero, Ángel

Ángel Borrego Cubero (1967, Llerena, Badajoz). Arquitecto Doctor por la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid ETSAM, MArch por la Universidad de Princeton (EE.UU.) donde fue becario Fulbright, Ángel Borrego Cubero cuenta con una trayectoria docente de más de veinte años durante la cual ha enseñado proyectos de arquitectura en la Universidad de Princeton, en el Pratt Institute de Nueva York, la Universidad de Alicante, la Universidad Keio de Tokyo, Hong Kong Design Institute y, desde 2001, en la ETSAM de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Desde 1999 lidera Office for Strategic Spaces (OSS), oficina de arquitectura, arte y activismo urbano con sede en Madrid. Por Factoria Cultural Matadero Madrid, ha ganado el Premio COAM  2015 con Mención Especial, así como el Premio al Mejor Proyecto de Rehabilitación de los Premios NAN de Arquitectura y Construcción 2016 y ha sido seleccionado para exponer en el Pabellón Español, ganador del León de Oro en la XV Bienal de Venecia.  Por su documental The Competition ha sido reconocido, entre otros, con el Primer Premio COAM 2014  y con el Premio Difusión de Arquitectura de la XIII Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo BEAU 2016. Por el proyecto de innovación pedagógica Historia de la Escuela. Una historia oral de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, ha ganado el Premio Investigación de la XIII BEAU 2016. En 2023, ha sido seleccionado por la 18.Biennale di Venezia para dirigir un documental sobre el primer Biennale Architettura College. Si bien de formación arquitecto, Borrego Cubero ha ido construyendo una producción al cruce de la arquitectura con temas tales como la condición urbana contemporánea, las relaciones entre el espacio privado y público, la violencia, la vigilancia y las ficciones en arquitectura.

Ángel Borrego Cubero (1967, Spain). PhD Architect by the School of Architecture (ETSAM) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), MArch by Princeton University (USA) where he was a Fulbright scholar, Ángel Borrego Cubero’s teaching career spans more than twenty years and he has taught architectural design at Princeton University, Pratt Institute in New York, the University of Alicante in Spain, at Keio University, Tokyo, the Hong Kong Design Institute – HKDI and, since 2001, at the School of Architecture of Madrid. He leads Office for Strategic Spaces (OSS), a Madrid-based architecture, art and urban research practice he founded in 1999. For `Factoria Cultural Matadero Madrid’, the Madrid Chamber of Architects awarded him the COAM Award 2015 with Special Mention. He also won the NAN Architecture and Construction Award to the Best Rehabilitation Project 2016 and he was selected for the Spanish Pavilion, a Golden Lion winner at the XV Biennale di Venezia in 2016. For his feature documentary ‘The Competition´, he won the First Prize of the COAM Award 2014 and the Architecture Dissemination Award of the XIII Spanish Biennial of Architecture 2016. And, for his pedagogical innovation project ` La Historia de la Escuela. Una historia oral de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (The ETSAM School of Architecture’s Oral History)´ he won the Research Prize of the XIII Spanish Biennial of Architecture 2016. In 2023, he has been selected by the Venice Biennale to make a documentary of the first College Architettura of the 18th Biennale of Architecture curated by Lesley Lokko. While trained as an architect, Ángel Borrego Cubero has built a production which connects architecture with topics beyond such as the contemporary urban condition, the relationship between private and public space, violence, surveillance and architectural fictions.

de Abajo Castrillo, Begoña

Arquitecta (ETSAM 2012). Master por la Universidad de Columbia de Nueva York (MSAAD 2014). Doctora arquitecta (ETSAM 2021, Doctorado Internacional, Cum Laude), con la tesis titulada “Separar, relacionar, configurar. Tres estrategias extraídas de los juguetes de construcción para el aprendizaje del proyecto arquitectónico”. Begoña ha recibido el Premio Extraordinario de doctorado (UPM), el Premio Nacional Fin de Carrera (MECD) y el Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera (ETSAM). Ha sido docente con contrato predoctoral del Programa Propio UPM desde 2017 y FPU 2015 y es profesora asociada del Departamento de Proyectos desde 2021. Ha sido Premio Kinne 2014, Becaria Fulbright 2012, Becaria Arquia 2010 y ha disfrutado de varias ayudas para estancias internacionales como el programa propio UPM, la beca Bancaja y la Exchange Student Scholarship del IIT. Ha realizado estancias en TU Berlin, Columbia (NYC) y IIT (Chicago). También ha sido profesora ayudante en Barnard School of Architecture (NYC), y ha impartido clases y conferencias en varias instituciones internacionales (CUINDA, AIA, NJIT, Columbia, COAM, COAS, COACAN, FULBRIGHT, IE, MCH). Como docente e investigadora forma parte del Grupo de Investigación “Prolab” y del Grupo de Innovación Pedagógica “Dispositivos Aglutinadores de Proyecto”, con el cual han obtenido el Primer Premio GIP (UPM 2019) y un Premio PIE (UPM 2018).

Su líneas de trabajo se centran en los procesos sistemáticos, el diseño estratégico y la investigación a través del proyecto. Sus artículos han sido seleccionados en revistas como Zarch, Lunch Journal, Pasajes, Aldiri, Barthlebooth o Incuna. Y su obra construida se ha publicado en plataformas especializadas como Arquitectura Viva, Detail Magazine, On Diseño, Abitare o C3 entre otras.

Trabajó con Álvaro Siza y posteriormente en la oficina de Foster and Partners en Madrid y desde 2014 dirige, junto a Carlos García, el estudio DABG/deAbajoGarcía. Su trabajo ha recibido numerosos premios en concursos, destacando el primer premio en Europan 14, el segundo premio en Europan 15, una mención en Europan 13, los primeros premios para un centro comunitario en Reinosa o la remodelación de una plaza en el Camino de Santiago y el tercer premio para el Espacio Mahou en Madrid entre otros, y se ha expuesto en diferentes exposiciones, destacando la exposición “Nice out there. Architecture in rural áreas” organizada por el Deutsches Architekturmuseum de Alemania (2022), la Bienal de Venecia (2012) o las exposiciones de Europan correspondientes. Su obra construida ha sido reconocida con un premio Detail 2018, el premio nacional BMIAA 2019, el premio Ortega Alloza COACAN 2018 y la mención Luis Moreno Mansilla COAM 2018 y ha sido seleccionada en la BEAU XIV, los premis FAD 2017, ENOR 2017 y seleccionada en los premios Arquia Próxima 2018.

Phd Architect (ETSAM 2021, International Phd, Cum Laude) with her thesis “Split, Link, Assemble. Three Strategies Extracted from Construction Toys for Architectural Design Learning”. She was awarded with the Extraordinary Phd Prize (UPM), the National End of Studies Award (MECD) and the Extraordinary End of Studies Award (ETSAM). She has been teaching with a predoctoral UPM Program since 2017 and FPU 2015 and she is associate professor at DPA since 2021. She has received a Kinne Award from Columbia in 2014 and she has been Fulbright Scholar, Arquia Scholar and has received various grants for international stays such as the UPM 2019 program, the Bancaja scholarship and the IIT Exchange Student Scholarship. She has made international stays at TU Berlin, Columbia (NYC) and IIT (Chicago). She has also been an assistant professor at the Barnard School of Architecture (NYC), and has taught and lectured at several international institutions (AIA, NJIT, Columbia, COAM, COAS, COACAN, FULBRIGHT, IE, MCH, Politecnico Milano). As researcher and professor she is part of the “Prolab” Research Group and the “Dispositivos aglutinadores de proyectos” Pedagogical Innovation Group, with which they have obtained the first GIP Prize (UPM 2019) and a PIE Prize (UPM 2018).

Pesquera González, Eduardo

En 1989 obtiene el título de Arquitecto por la ETSAM con la calificación de Sobresaliente y cofunda su oficina de arquitectura compitiendo en múltiples concursos de arquitectura y obteniendo sus primeros premios. En 1994 obtiene la Beca de Arquitectura en la Academia de España en Roma, donde inicia su investigación doctoral sobre la operatividad contemporánea de los mecanismos proyectuales de la arquitectura del pasado. A su regreso de Roma, en 1995 obtiene la plaza de Profesor Asociado de Proyectos Arquitectónicos en la ETSAM, actividad docente que compagina con la investigadora y profesional de su estudio en todos los ámbitos de la Arquitectura, desde la gran escala de las infraestructuras y el urbanismo hasta las intervenciones sobre el patrimonio cultural. Doctor por la ETSAM en 2010 con sobresaliente cum laude. Ha sido Visiting Professor en la Universidad de Bolonia, Politécnico de Milán y Universidad de Navarra. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido, entre otros galardones, en varias Bienales de Arquitectura Española, la Bienal de Venecia, el Premio Luis Moreno o el Premio Selinunte. Una obra de variados programas con un denominador común: la resolución holística de problemas que intervienen en sistemas complejos, actuando en la mayoría de las ocasiones en la actualización propositiva de arquitecturas del pasado.
