Nicolau Corbacho, Alberto

Alberto Nicolau es arquitecto (ETSAM 1995) y doctor en arquitectura (ETSAM 2016).

Comienza su trayectoria profesional en Londres, trabajando en el estudio de Norman Foster durante dos años. Seguidamente regresa a Madrid para incorporarse al estudio de Rafael Moneo, lugar donde permanece cinco años y participa en proyectos de gran escala y complejidad como la Catedral de Los Ángeles en EEUU. En el año 2002 funda su propio estudio en Madrid con el objetivo de producir trabajos singulares de máxima calidad.

Ganador de varios concursos de arquitectura nacionales e internacionales, su obra ha sido ampliamente publicada en numerosas revistas profesionales dentro y fuera de España. Así mismo, su trabajo ha sido seleccionado para participar en varias exposiciones en España, Alemania, Holanda, Suiza e Italia como, por ejemplo, en el pabellón de España de la bienal de Venecia de 2002. Entre sus trabajos más señalados cabe destacar el proyecto Suburban Loop para Almere (proyecto ganador de Europan), las Viviendas para Jóvenes en Sevilla o las viviendas Spuimarkt en La Haya. Su obra pública, Piscinas en Valdemoro, recibió el premio A-plus a la mejor arquitectura deportiva en 2010.

En paralelo a esta actividad, desde 2002 es profesor de Proyectos Arquitectónicos en la Escuela de Arquitectura de Madrid donde compagina su actividad como docente con su labor de investigación. Su labor docente ha estado centrada especialmente en los últimos cursos de proyectos, en la dirección de Proyectos Fin de Carrera y en el Máster Habilitante, buscando siempre que los alumnos alcancen la excelencia.

Especialmente interesado en los procesos de generación de proyectos, es autor de una tesis doctoral sobre el uso de conceptos como herramienta creativa. Esta investigación analiza tres estrategias esenciales para producir ideas de proyecto y muestra cómo los mejores arquitectos contemporáneos las aplican en su trabajo profesional.

He began his professional career in London, working at Foster and Partners for two years. He then returned to Madrid to join Rafael Moneo’s studio, where he remained for five years participating in large-scale and complex projects such as the Los Angeles Cathedral (US). In 2002 he founded Alberto Nicolau Architecture in Madrid striving to produce high-quality singular works.

Winner of several national and international architectural competitions, his work has been published in professional journals both inside and outside Spain. Likewise, his work has been selected to participate in several exhibitions in Spain, Germany, Holland, Switzerland and Italy, including the Venice Biennale of 2002. Among his most outstanding works, it is worth mentioning Suburban Loop for Almere (Europan winning entry), Social Housing for Young People in Seville or the Spuimarkt housing Complex in The Hague. His public work, Valdemoro Swimming Pools, received the A-plus Prize for the best sports architectural work in 2010.

In parallel to this activity, since 2002 he teaches Architectural Projects at the School of Architecture of Madrid where he combines his teaching activity with his research work. His teaching scope has been primarily centred on the top undergraduate courses, on the direction of Final Degree Projects and the Master courses, always striving to achieve students’ excellence.

Especially interested in conception design, he is the author of a doctoral thesis on the use of concepts as a creative tool. This research analyses three key strategies to generate architectural concepts and shows how the best contemporary architects apply them in their professional work.

En 2002 fundó Burgos & Garrido Arquitectos [BGA] con Ginés Garrido. BGA ha desarrollado proyectos de espacio público y diseño urbano
y puentes peatonales, entre ellos, el proyecto Madrid Río que obtuvo el XII Veronica Rudge Green Prize in Urban Design (2016), GSD Harvard.

BGA además ha realizado proyectos de vivienda y equipamientos públicos y ha ganado más de 40 premios en concursos nacionales e internacionales de arquitectura; recientemente, los concursos para la puesta en valor del yacimiento arqueológico del arrabal andalusí de la Arrixaca en Murcia, un puente peatonal sobre el río Miño en Pontevedra y el nuevo hospital de La Paz en Madrid.

He founded Burgos & Garrido Arquitectos Asociados [BGA] with Ginés Garrido in 2002. BGA is a practice with experience in public space, urban design and footbridges. Among these, Madrid Rio project has been awarded with the XII Veronica Rudge Green Prize in Urban Design (2016) GSD Harvard.
BGA has also completed diverse housing projects and public facilities and has been awarded with more than forty prizes in national and international architecture competitions. Lately, they have won the competitions for the valorization of the archaeological site of the al-andalusian complex called La Arrixaca in Murcia, a new footbridge over the Miño river in Pontevedra, and the new La Paz Hospital, in Madrid.

Rodríguez Ramírez, Fernando

Fernando Rodriguez es Doctor Arquitecto por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Ha estudiado Arquitectura en la ETSAM Madrid y la Technische Universität Berlin, entre 1995 y 2003.

Actualmente es Profesor Titular del Departamento de Proyectos Arquitectónicos en la ETSAM-UPM en Máster Habilitante y MPAA. Ha impartido docencia y ha sido crítico invitado en otras instituciones de carácter internacional, como FAU PUCP Lima, Technische Universität Berlin, IE School of Architecture and Design o Universitat Internacional de Catalunya.

En 2015 defiende su tesis doctoral “Un entendimiento infraestructural del proyecto arquitectónico” (Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado) que recoge su interés sobre la condición arquitectónica de lo infraestructural y las escalas diversas en las que opera.

Escribe en revistas especializadas y ha publicado los libros “Dual Practices” (Asimétricas 2020), “Un entendimiento infraestructural del proyecto” (Nobuko, 2016), “La materia de la identidad” (DPA 2017), “Standards” (DPA 2016), “Uncharted” (Actar 2014) y “Matterscapes” (Mairea 2013), entre otros. Ha sido comisario del ciclo de Conferencias argument#2 “Dual Practices” y ha sido jurado de Europan España.

En 2007 funda FRPO Rodriguez & Oriol junto a Pablo Oriol, cuya trayectoria profesional ha sido reconocida con los premios Architectural Record Design Vanguard (Nueva York, 2012), Europe 40 under 40 (2009) y Bauwelt Preis (Berlín, 2007). Su obra ha sido reconocida con la nominación para los MCHAP 2022, la selección para los Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Awards (2019), los Premios FAD (2019, 2021, 2022), el Pabellón de España en la Bienal de Venecia (2016, León de Oro), la nominación a los Premios Mies van der Rohe (2015), las IX, XII y XVI Bienales Españolas de Arquitectura y Urbanismo (2007, 2013, 2021, 2023), o las V y IX Bienales Iberoamericanas de Arquitectura y Urbanismo (2006 y 2014). Fernando Rodriguez holds a PhD in Architecture from the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. He studied Architecture in the ETSAM Madrid and the TU Berlin between 1995 and 2003.

He teaches at the Architectural Design Department of UPM ETSAM, both in Undergraduate and Graduate Programs. He has also taught and has been guest critic at other international institutions, such as FAU PUCP Lima, Technische Universität Berlin, IE School of Architecture and Design or Universitat Internacional de Catalunya.

In 2015 his PhD dissertation “An infrastructural understanding of architectural design” (PhD Prize 2016), showcases his interest in the architectural character of the infrastructural condition and the different scales in which it performs.

He publishes in architectural journals and has recently published the books “Dual Practices” (Asimétricas 2020), “Un entendimiento infraestructural del proyecto” (Nobuko, 2016), “La materia de la identidad” (DPA 2017), “Standards” (DPA 2016), “Uncharted” (Actar 2014) y “Matterscapes” (Mairea 2013), among others. He has been curator of the Lecture Series argument#2 “Dual Practices” and has been an Europan España jury member.

Pascual García, Manuel

Manuel Pascual García, Arquitecto por la ETSAM.
Miembro fundador del colectivo zuloark desde donde trabaja en múltiples entornos y plataformas.

Zuloark es una oficina abierta de Arquitectura y Urbanismo fundada en 2001 que trabaja en modelos profesionales líquidos y colaborativos, construyendo entornos de corresponsabilidad en los que compartir la autoría de los proyectos con el mayor número de agentes posibles. Zuloark es un espacio de trabajo distribuido y deslocalizado que actualmente tiene oficina abierta en Madrid, Berlín, A Coruña y Bolonia.

Su agenda se construye colaborando a través de diferentes formatos: investigaciones, pedagogía, consultoria, acción y diseño. Poniendo en relación la arquitectura, el medioambiente, la innovación ciudadana, la gestión cultural abierta, los estudios de humanidades contemporáneas y las prácticas urbanas.

Entre los proyectos que ha realizado destacan la colaboración con espacios vecinales como El Campo de Cebada o Almendro3, el diseño del Pabellón de información para DSS2016, la conceptualización de escenografías para el Bilbao BBKLive o el UVA Festival, el diseño de arquitecturas domésticas de rehabilitación, la participación en plataformas de innovación ciudadana e innovación social como Ciudad-Escuela y Los Madriles, así como la intervención, diseño y acción en múltiples proyectos de escala urbana como “Gran Vía – Gran Obra” desarrollado durante la Noche en Blanco de Madrid en el año 2010 o el plan de participación “Yes Llanes”.

Dentro de la plataforma Zoohaus participan en el proyecto Inteligencias Colectivas desde donde han desarrollado investigaciones y prototipos en ciudades de Europa, América del Sur, Asia y África, y con el que participaron de “Uneven Growth” proyecto comisariado en el MoMA de Nueva York y el Mac de Viena.

Los proyectos de zuloark, dentro de plataformas en las que ha participado como El Campo de Cebada o Inteligencias Colectivas han sido reconocidos internacionalmente con diferentes premios como el Golden Nica 2013, Premio Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo XII, Premio Bienal Iberoamericana de Arquitectura y Urbanismo 2012, Premio de Urbanismo en los IV Premios Arquia Próxima, Primer Premio Arquia Próxima 2012 y Best Practice de la ONU en el Dubai International Award de 2014.

Zuloark is a distributed architecture and urbanism open office, founded in 2001.
Developing flowing and collaborative professional working models and building co-responsibility environments through
shared authorship projects ever since. As a distributed architecture platform, Zuloark is currently based in Madrid, Berlín, A Coruña and Bolonia .

Zuloark’s work has been shown in several renowned cultural institutions such as New York MoMA, Akademie der Kunste Berlin, Lisbon Architecture Triennale or Matadero Madrid. The office won the “European Capital of Culture San Sebastian 2016” Information Pavilion Competition. Zuloark activities are involved in different context such as “El Campo de Cebada” or “Inteligencias Colectivas”.
Projects internationally awarded with: Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica 2013, first prize in the XII Biennial of Spanish

Ribot Manzano, Almudena

Almudena Ribot es Profesora Titular y responsable de la Unidad Docente CoLab / Ribot desde 2010, que agrupa a tres profesores más y trabaja en niveles de grado y postgrado. También codirige su propio estudio de arquitectura desde 1990.

Sus intereses se enfocan en tres campos interrelacionados: la industrialización, la personalización y la sostenibilidad social, económica y medioambiental.
Profesionalmente esto significa la prioridad en la sistematización y la construcción como lenguajes proyectuales y el uso de sistemas industrializados y soluciones personalizables. Lo que ha dado lugar al proyecto CUATRO50, Un Sistema de Viviendas Industrializadas, que codirige desde 2007.
Pedagógicamente interesada además en procesos colaborativos e innovativos. En 2009 funda y codirige el Grupo CoLaboratorio: Fabricación, Prototipos y Colaboración. Desde entonces su trabajo, pedagogía e investigación siguen esa línea.

Almudena Ribot is an Associate Professor of Design at the School of Architecture ETSAM. She is responsible for a Design Studio Group UD. Ribot (also CoLab) since 2010, which combines three teachers more, at graduate and postgraduate levels. She also co-leads her own Architecture Studio since 1990.

Her interests focus on three interrelated fields: Industrialization, Customization and Environmental, Social and Economic Sustainability.
Professionally takes shape on the priority of systemic and construction as design languages and the use of industrial systems and customizable solutions. This has meant CUATRO50 Industrialized Housing System, co-directed since 2007.
